VFX1 Headgear Virtual Reality System
Thanks Greg Miller and Terry Beaubois for this cool mid 90s VR system.
Comment from Digibarn virtual visitor Michael Greenway (Oct 2006)
In 1996 to December 1997 I had a version of the Cyber Puck that I bought from Best Buy here in Huntsville, Alabama. The Cyber Puck was essentially a 3 button left or right hand joystick with a reasonably accurate internal gyro. It didn't need drivers or special software...it just plugged right in and worked with windows! The only way to program it was in the particular game you were playing.
I played Star Wars Dark Forces with it and got pretty good results. Naturally, the arm gets tired holding the controller after a while. Sadly, the Cyber Puck dissappeared in the move to Washington D.C. in December of 1997.
There were other versions of the Cyber Puck that were more expensive and may have had additional capabilities. Mine was fairly inexpensive, though I don't remember the exact price.
Hope this insight is helpful to you.
