DigiBarn Stories: Interview with Carl Helmers

In April 2009 I had the great pleasure to interview Carl Helmers (in a pretty noisey room, sorry!).


Interview: Carl Helmers on the origins of Byte Magazine & more. Topics range from David Ahl, Stan Veit, MITS Altair, ECS Magazine, interest in electronic music, switched on Bach, Kluge Harp, Virginia Londoner, Dan Fylstra, Bob Frankston (see our Bob Frankston interview) and Dan Bricklin, Space Shuttle Software, summer 1975 road trip to Sphere and MITS, Kilobaud, working at Intermetrics since Univ of Rochester 1971, Steve Chu (energy secretary), original ECS Magazine and its predecessor done at Copy Cot on Boylston St in Boston, first BYTEs printed in Wisconsin, 20,000 run first issue, Wayne Green, 73 Magazine, Andy Griel, layout using waxed paper.
