Cray-1 Evaluation Final Report
(Los Alamos Labs, December 1976)

This document was the evaluation performed by Los Alamos National Laboratories (with many of the test routines written by Lawrence Livermore Laboratories) of the "half a Cray" shipped to LANL in early to mid 1976. The success of the Cray-1 in meeting or exceeding all of the government's performance criteria led to them recommending procurement of full Cray-1 Supercomputers and made Cray Research into a successful business. Rumor had it that founder Seymour Cray had misgivings about the military becoming such a big customer of his creations but he had to make his peace with that fact as his business grew. We have a few extracts from the public report of this evaluation below.
